Morgen gehts los. Wir fahren mit den Kindern eine Woche nach Paris und haben hinterher hoffentlich viel zu berichten.

Tomorow, we'll start our trip to Paris with the kids. They wanted t o see the Eiffel Tower and I'll hopefully have a lot to report afterwards.


Noch was aus dem Nähzimmer. Ein Anzug den ich für den Sohn meiner Freundin zur Taufe gemacht habe.

A Day in My Life - August

Oohps, I nearly forgot, today is the 14th. So, once again, I'll tell you about my day.

Had a uncomfortable night. Helene insisted on sleeping in our bed after watching "The Spiderwick Chronicles" yesterday evening. It scared her a bit.

We are in our second week of summer holidays an my day is a bit different from normal.

Plans for today:
Get up early, do some housework, prepare everything for a friends visit. We intended to do some sock yarn dying in our backyard, having a good long chat and doodle around with some fabric. Agnes also likes to sew and knows a lot about patchwork, so we have always a nice chat about that on our meetings.

Reality:
My alarm woke me up at 8 am. I switched it off and turned around. Got up at 8:45am, put some rolls in the oven for breakfast and had a shower.
Called the girls for breakfast (fresh rolls with butter and marmelade or honey and juice). During we ate, the phone started to ring: a friend called, told me, she feels sick and asked Paula to come around and watch afer her two year old daughter for a while. Next call Agnes, she's also sick, caught a cold and called of our meeting.
Next call, another friend, invited us for coffee this afternoon. I promised a cake.

After breakfast, I hung up some washing, started another mashine. I made an upside-down pineapple cake. A recipe, I brought with me from my exchange of students to france 25 years ago. Sorry, I forgot to take a photograph, it's been finished up really quickly.
After that I started tidying up the kitchen and the rest of our apartment.
When Paula came back from Babysitting, she made Lunch. One of our favourite summer meals. Noodles with tomatos, mozzarella and basil, mixed with a tablespoon olive oil, salt and pepper.


By the way, I usually didn't talk about blogging with the kids but when I made the picture from Lunch, they both asked me imediately, if today is "the day" the 14th.
In the meanwhile, I hoovered the apartment.
After Lunch, I did more washing and up-hanging. Here a picture, Helene made from the laundry hanging at the attic.


At 2:30 pm we're left home for visiting our friends. Not the best point in time. I burst into some serious house renovating discusions.
The kids also didn't played well together, so we left soon and drove to the video rental shop for another movie. During the holidays, we often watch DVD's in the evening. Especially when the weather is not really warm and summerlike as at the moment. We haven't got a real TV, but a LCD projector and a DVD player. My husband is a home cinema freak.
So, we had Dinner (homemade French fries and chicken nuggets and italian antipasti instead McDonalds, which would have been Helenes choice) in front of the screen watching "High school musical". No excuse for Helene to slip into my bed tonight.
Now, I'm writing this post while Stefan is cleaning up the kitchen and whish you all a good night.

Ein T-Shirt, dass ich heute für den Sohn meiner Freundin zum ersten Geburtstag genäht habe. Es ist aus einem alten Top von mir, mit einem Velour Aufbügler von Farbenmix. Ich muß hier nämlich dringend mein Lager und meine Vorräte reduziern, daher habe ich mir für August wieder einmal "Use what you have" vorgenommen.

A shirt, I've made for my friends son today. It's his first birthday next Sunday. I made it from one of my old tank tops and the sticker is from here. I've got too much stuff, so I think, I do some "use what you have" in August and try not to buy something new for sewing.

Endlich Ferien!!!

Hier inb Bayern sind nun auch endlich Sommerferien und in den nächsten Wochen wird es wohl wieder ruhiger im Blog werden.
Das Wetter ist passend zum Ferienanfang wieder schlechter und nasser geworden, aber Paula stört das gar nicht so sehr. Sie genießt erst einmal die Ruhe und das rumgammeln.
Helene ist heute Morgen um 6 Uhr nach Österreich für eine Woche Tanzfreizeit aufgebrochen. Das erste Mal, dass sie alleine wegfährt, im Bus war ihr schon ein wenig mulmig zumute.

Finally, we also have summer holidays in Bavaria. The wether is chilly and a bit wet today, but Paula doesen't bother about it. She enjoys doodling around her room and relax.
Helene started at 6 am this morning for a one week dancing camp in Austria with her Ballett school. First time, she's on a journey without us. She looked a bit queasy when the bus started.

Aus dem Nähzimmer / From the sewing room

Letzte Woche habe ich euch versprochen, wieder mehr aus dem Nähzimmer zu berichten. Hier also erste Meldungen:
Am Wochenende habe ich ein paar Kleinigkeiten, wie zum Beispiel diesen neuen Gurt für meine Kamera genäht. Gesehen bei "house on the hill road" ging er mir nicht mehr aus dem Kopf und daher habe ich die lange gestreichelten Fat Quaters von Heather Bailey / Freshcut angeschnitten.

Last week, I promised you more news from the sewing room so here are first notices:
I made some small things like these camera strap. Have seen it on "house on the hill road" a few weeks ago. Eager to make on, I cut the long admired Heather Bailey fat quaters.


Paula hat am Sonntagnachmittag ein Kleid für sich selbst angefangen und Helene hat mit ihrem Rock von "half-werk" weiter gemacht. Sie macht die Dekoration und ein wenig Stickerei und ich näh ihn dann zusammen.

Paula started with a dress for herself on sunday afternoon and Helene continued with her skirt from "half-werk". She does the decorating and some stichery and I sew it together.






Ein paar Lätzchen für den Shop habe ich auch geschafft, der wir in den nächsten Tagen aufgefüllt. Ich muß bloß erst noch bessere Bilder machen, hoffentlich wird es die nächsten Tage wieder heller.

And I made some bibs for the shop. There will be an update by the end of this week.
Need some better pictures, hopefully there will be better weather during the next days. It's grey and cloudy outside.

Toi, Toi, Toi!!!

Vorhin habe ich Helene im Theater abgeliefert. Heute ist die Premiere von "Schneewittchen". Das Kind ist schon ganz aufgeregt.
Leider habe ich keine Karten, die Vorstellung war schon am 2. Vorverkaufstag praktisch ausverkauft. Wir werden uns das Stück erst nächsten Sonntag ansehen aber heute fest die Daumen drücken.

I carried Helene to Theater this morning. Today is premiere of "Snow White" and she was a bit nervous.
Unfortunately, we have no Tickets. They were sold out by the second day of pre-selling. We will see the balett next Sunday, but I'll keep my fingers crossed today.

A Day in my Life - July

6:30 Got up and woke Paula, sending her to the bathroom for a shower. The windows where open all night and it is chilly. So I snuggled up to bed for another 15 min or so.
Made breakfast for the girls (Cereals, Instant Cappucino and Cookies) and woke up Helene at 7:00.
Made sandwiches for school, choose some clothes for Helene to wear and made her hair. They left home about 7:40 and I had a shower myself, took a cup of coffee and some leftover cake from yesterday in front of the computer. Having a quick blog round during my own breakfast and starting this post.

8:45 Made the beds, changed Helenes sheets and picked up a piece here and something there and gave the appartment a general clean up.

At 9:30, I went out to the municipality. Last week I recieved a letter and a form about my sewing business. I had to answer a few questions to fix the business tax I had to pay.
After that, I visited some shops in my neighbourhood. The clothes shops have their seasonal sale and a lot of stuff is reduced. Found some Jeans for the girl which makes me happy. The old ones became a little short over the summer and as we have no school uniforms in Germany, they normaly need al lot of new clothes when term starts again in September.
Back home, I hang up some washing, cut out the pieces for the (hopefully) last costume and boilled 2 eggs for lunch.


Helene arrived 10 min after 1pm. We had lunch, she examined the clothes, I bought for her and the we had to leave for the dentist.
Helene has broken a piece from her front tooth.
Home again, she started with homework, Paula arrived at 3:30 pm and after a little chat about school she vanished into her room and I started some sewing on the prince.


This is what the girls did after homework. Very busy until bed time. They made only a little break for Dinner at 7:00pm. We had some fish and potatoes and zucchini. I planned to make something with noodles but unfortunately haven't got one in my stash so I had to improvise from the freezer and the fridge.





Now, I'm blogging this and carry on with sewing for a hour or two befor going to bed.

Sorry, dass ich heute nicht in Deutsch schreibe, aber das Kostüm sollte möglichst heute noch fertig werden. Vielleicht schaffe ich morgen die Übersetztung.

Unser Wochenende / Our Weekend

Dieses Wochenende hatten wir mal keine Termine wie sonst an fast jedem Wochenende im Sommer. Das Schuljahr geht dem Ende entgegen und überall gibt es Sommer- Schul- und Abschlußfeste.
Der Sommer macht gerade wieder eine Pause und es regnet immer wieder.
Samstag Morgen, als ich Helen ins Ballettt gebracht habe ich erfahren, dass das Thema Kostüme doch noch nicht ganz abgeschloßen ist. Ein Prinzenkostüm darf ich noch nachliefern.

Unlike other summer weekends we had no commitments this time. There are only three weeks until summer holidays and there are school and summer partys everywhere.
since yesterday, summer takes a break and it is cold and rainy again.
Saturday morning when I brought Helene to ballett school, they informed me, that there is one more prince costume needed. So I have to start once more tomorrow.

Am Samstag habe ich mein Nähzimmer endlich mal wieder aufgeräumt und ein wenig mit meinen Stoffen gespielt. Helene hat ein eigenes Projekt angefangen. Sie will sich ihren ersten eigenen Rock nähen. Er ist aber noch nicht fertig.

On Saturday, I tidied up me sewing room an played with some fabrics. Helene started her own projekt, sewing her first skirt. It isn't finished yet.


Heute hatten wir Freunde zum Nachmittagskaffee da und ich habe die Gelegenheit genutzt, um Jennys Bisquitrezept auszuprobieren. Lecker, aber leider ein bischen flacher als bei Jenny.

Today, we had guests for afternoon coffee and I took the opportunity and made Jennys Kiss Biscuits. A bit flat but yummy.

Back / Zurück

So, der Sommer soll ja langsam wieder kommen und ich melde mich hier auch mal wieder.
Kann vermelden, ich habe fertig! Die Kostüme für Schneewittchen sind fertig und wurden heute Nachmittag abgeliefert.
Die Goldenen sind für die Hofgesellschaft, das Grüne ist ein Jäger, der noch fehlte und das Blaue ist für den Prinzen. Ich bin froh, dass das erledigt ist und ich mich auf neue Projekte konzentrieren kann.

Summer is comming back slowly here and I`m checking in for a quick "HELLO".
I'm ready!! The costumes for Snow White are finished and I delivered them this afternoon. The golden ones are for the court society, the green one is a hunter and the blue one from velvet is for the Prince. I'm glad, it's done and I can focus on new projects.


So nebenbei habe ich noch jede Menge Marmelade gekocht. Kirsche mit Schuß, Kirsch-Banane, Johannisbeer und Erdbeer-Rhabarber.

By the way, I made some Jam. Cherry with cognac, Cherry-Banana, Strawberry-Rhubarb and Red currant.



Und ich versuche, Kirschlikör zu machen. Mal sehen, ob es klappt.

And I try to make some cherry brandy. Wondering, if it works.


Ich bin voller Ideen, inspiriert von den Büchern, die ich zum Geburtstag bekommen habe. Hier gibt es sicher bald wieder mehr aus dem Nähzimmer zu sehen. Bis dahin, hier noch ein paar Muffins, die ich für ein Picknick mit den Kindern gebacken habe.

I've got my head full with ideas. Inspired by the books, I got for birthday and I'm sure, there will be more from the sewing room next time. Until then, here are some muffins, I made for a picknick with the kids.

I had a huge birthday baking session yesterday. Sometimes, it bothers me, to do all the baking for myself. Perhaps I could persuade Paula next year for doing it. But today, she has an english test in school so she had to learn hard the last few days. Languages are not her best subjects.

Ich hatte gestern eine größere Geburtstags Back Aktion. Manchmal wünsche ich mir ja schon, irgendjemand anderes würde mir mal ein paar Geburtstagskuchen backen und ich müsste nix tun. Vielleicht sollte ich nächstes Jahr mal die Paula breitschlagen. Aber die musste die letzten Tage intensiv auf die letzte Englishschulaufgabe lernen. Sprachen sind nicht gerade ihre stärksten Fächer.

So today, I took one more step to the forties. Not that I didn`t realize getting older every day looking at Paula, who is growing over my head soon. But now, I can see it in numbers...
Okay, I feel a bit self-pitting at the moment. Mostly, I feel like in my tweenties and it's a little shock realizing, that I'm older than my mother when I started dating Stefan. She seemed old to me at this time.

So, jetzt bin ich wieder einen Schritt weiter an den 40 dran. Ich mein, ich merk ja schon, dass oich älter werde. Schließlich wächst mir die Paula gerade über den Kopf, aber es so in Zahlen zu sehen....
Okay, ich schwelge gerade ein bisschen im Selbstmitleid. Aber ich bin jetzt älter als meine Mutter damals, als ich anfing, mit Stefan zu gehen. Und zu der Zeit kam sie mir ziemlich alt vor.

A day in my life - June

Ich bin heute, wie immer am Wochenende, später aufgestanden. Erst so gegen 9 Uhr. Alle, die mich kennen, wissen ja, dass ich eher eine Nachteule denn ein Frühaufsteher bin. Heute hatten wir ein ausgiebiges Familienfrühstück mit Bananen-Kleie-Muffins, Toast, Marmelade, Wurst und Käse.
Dazwischen habe ich Helene frisiert, die heute den ganzen Tag in der Ballettschule zur Durchlaufprobe für Schneewittchen verbringt. Heute habe ich mal einen schönen und haltbaren Dutt zusammengebracht.
Kurz vor 10 Uhr hat Stefan sie zur Probe gefahren und ich bin unter die Dusche. Danach habe ich mich an die Maschine gesetzt und das Probeteil für die Hofgesellschaft fertig gestellt.

I'm up late, around nine as always on weekends. Everybody, who knows me, knew that I'm a lot more a night owl than an early bird.
We had an family breakfast with Banana-Bran-Muffins, Toast, Jam, Sausages and Cheese.
In between, I managed to do Helenes hair and made a good and stable bun. She was at the balett school for the whole day. They had run-through rehearsals for Snowithe.
Stefan drove her to school whilst I had an shower.
After that, I finished the first court society costume.



Mittags fuhren Paula und ich dann mit den Fahrrädern in die Ballettschule um Helene einen Burger zu Mittagessen zu bringen und den Lehrerinnen das Kostüm zu zeigen. Danach sind wir noch ein wenig in der Stadt herumgebummelt, habe bei einer Freundin im Laden vorbeigeschaut und waren einen Happen essen.

At noon, Paula and I took our bikes and rode to balett. We brought Helene her Lunch and showed the costume to the teachers. After that, we had a nice ramble throug town, visited a friend in her shop and had a snack for Lunch.

Wieder zu Hause hatte ich dann eine Tasse Kaffee mit Stefan während Paula gelernt hat. Nach einer Pause mit ein bisschen lesen habe ich Nachmittags mit einem neuen Babyquilt angefangen und dabei wiedermal "Harry Potter" gehört.

Back home, Stefan and I had a cup of Coffee and after a break reading a magazine, I spent the afternoon with a new Babyquilt and listening "Harry Potter".


Zum Abendessen hatten wir Pizza und bevor wir es uns dann zum 2. Teil von den "Tudors" gemütlich machen schreib ich hier noch diesen Post.

We had Pizza for Dinner and I'm writing this post before we settle in for the second part of "The Tudors".

Nochmal Mittelalter / Once again the mediaeval times

Und noch ein mittelalterliches Gewand, denke ich jedenfalls. Nächstes Wochenende ist in Eichstätt wo Stefans Schwester lebt Stadtjubiläum uns so habe ich Montag für ihren jüngsten Sohn was geschneidert.

Once again a mediaeva robe. lThere is another town anniversary next weekend. My husbands sister lives there and on Monday, I made this robe for her youngest son.

And thanks to the Football European Cup I finished this yesterday evening. Babysocks made from handdyed Merino wool.

Mein Wochenende / My weekend

Die Jäger sind fertig, leider habe ich kein Bild. Hatte vergessen, eines zu machen, bevor ich sie am Freitagnachmittag abgeliefert habe. Aber im Juli ist die Aufführung, dann werden welche nachgeliefert.
Nach der Auslieferung der Kostüme war ich auf dem jährlichen Lions-Club-Flohmarkt. Ich liebe es, dort zu stöbern und jedes Jahr läßt sich das ein oder andere Schnäppchen machen.
Dieses Jahr habe ich ganze 19,50€ ausgegeben. Hier ein paar Bilder meiner Beute:

After delivering the costumes, I visited the anual Lions-Club-flea market. Made some nice finds and paid only 19,50€.


Ich wollte schon seit einigener Zeit einen Dampfentsafter und der hier ist so gut wie neu. Auch ein paar Teller zu unserem Service passend waren zu haben.

I wanted an steam juice extractor for some time. And this one is almost as new. I also found some plates fitting to our service.


2 Stücke Frotteestoff,schön kitschig und bestimmt schon alt.

2 scraps of terry cloth, a bit "kitschig" and vintage.


Und einige Tischdecken, eine davon mit einer wunderschönen Erdbeerstickerei.

And some tablecloth, one of them has a wonderful strawberry stiching on it.

Meinen Samstag habe ich an der Nähmaschine verbracht, damit wenigstens meine Töchter passend Gewandet zum Stadtjubiläum und Mittelaltermarkt unserer Heimatstadt gehen konnten.

I spend the Saturday sewing for my daugthers. Our hometown had an anniversary and they organised a mediaeval fair.

Paula mit ihrem neuen Kleid. Leider sind die Bilder nicht besonders. Ich hatte keine Gelegenheit, welche zu machen, bevor es zu regnen anfing und diese sind in der Kirche entstanden, in die wir vor dem Gewitter geflüchtet sind. Da war das Licht leider nicht besonders.
